ADI Go One Better With 11 Grand National Screens

ADI provided LED screens for one of the world’s most famous sporting occasions for the third year running at last week’s John Smith’s Grand National at Aintree.

Riders pass ADI's two John Smith's sponsored iCONIC 60 screens at the end of the home straight Following on from the ten screens they provided for last year’s meet, this year ADI went one better, with a total of 11 screens in position for Grand National Saturday.

With racing taking place from the Thursday until the Saturday, ADI arrived on site on the Monday to begin siting the screens.  First to go in were the flown screens in the Equestrian Centre, as other structures needed to be built beneath them.  These were followed by the Parade Ring screen (a 15m² ground supported screen) as well as the smaller mobile screens (two 12m² iCONICs) on the Tuesday. 

Wednesday morning saw ADI’s larger iCONIC screens arrive, with two 60m² iCONIC 60s facing the Main Grandstand joined by a 100m² iCONIC 100 on The Mound. Both iCONIC 60s carried full livery from main sponsor John Smith’s – this included vertical digital banners flanking the main screen as well as static truckside branding.

ADI's giant iCONIC 100 on The Mound ensures everyone gets a great view of the action Racing began on Thursday although unfortunately the crowds weren’t treated to a repeat of last year’s glorious weather, as showers and a chilled wind blew across Aintree throughout the three day meet.  With increased crowds expected for Grand National Saturday, ADI brought an extra two mobile screens on Friday evening: a 25m² screen and their innovative iCONIC 15 double-sided screen which was located on Seeds Lane allowing crowds all around to watch the live action.

The 2008 John Smith’s Grand National was won by the 7-1 joint favourite Comply or Die and, with the final race finished, the huge crowds began to disperse.  ADI immediately began to derig screens, enabling them and all eleven screens to be offsite that day.
