Marathon Job for ADI
Friday, April 25, 2008 at 1:22PM Having provided screens for The John Smith’s Grand National earlier in the month, ADI supplied mobile LED screens for another of the world’s biggest sporting occasions at The Flora London Marathon earlier this month.
ADI's iCONIC 100 dominates the Blue Start line This was the first year that ADI had been involved with the event which sees some 35,000 brave souls tackle one of the world’s greatest physical challenge.
In total, ADI provided 7 screens for the day, with 3 for the marathon organisers and a further 4 for an Adidas promotion booked through Posterscope (more to follow on this in the next Latest News!)
With huge numbers of runners to deal with on the day, the London Flora Marathon has three different start points (although the same 26 miles 385 yards length). ADI provided one of their iCONIC mobile LED screens for all three startpoints, with a brand new iCONIC 12 at the Green Start, an iCONIC 60 at the Red Start and the huge iCONIC 100 at the Blue Start. ADI also supplied a 3 camera outside broadcast for the event, with a camera operator at each of the screens.
ADI arrived on-site on the Saturday morning to move the screens into position and rig the outside broadcast cameras, vehicle and satellite link prior to Sunday’s race. They arrived back bright and early at 5.30am the following day and began playing out onto the screens at 7am.

Prior to the race, the screens were used as important safety and information points, informing runners of where they should gather, safety procedures and drinking points. They also played out DVDs of archive marathon footage and promotional videos from race sponsors as well as footage from ADI’s cameras. This was followed by live coverage of the race from the BBC’s cameras once the race had began.
Following the early start, it proved to also be an early finish, with everyone in the race well under way at 10.10am and the feed to the screens cut. With all of ADI’s iCONIC mobile LED screens benefiting from rig and derig times of just 24 minutes, ADI were able to pack up these and their outside broadcast equipment quickly and be off-site by midday.
