ADI Keep 32,000 Rangers Fans Happy with Big Screen at Ibrox for UEFA Cup Final
Friday, May 16, 2008 at 3:17PM The ADI Group this week supplied the world’s largest mobile LED screen to Glasgow Rangers FC.
The iCONIC 100 at Ibrox, shortly before kick-off Not
to be confused with the screen that failed in Manchester Piccadilly
Gardens leaving thousands of Rangers fans disappointed, the iCONIC 100
ensured that everyone who had decided not to make the long trip down
the M6 to Manchester had made the correct decision!
The iCONIC 100 was set up in the centre of the Ibrox pitch to show live coverage of their UEFA Cup final against Russian champions Zenit St Petersburg. Rangers regularly attract audiences of over 50,000 to their matches and with only 13,000 tickets available for the final at the City of Manchester Stadium, there was an obvious shortfall in available tickets. Rangers were keen that as many fans as possible would be able to experience and celebrate the momentous occasion and consequently offered the “BeamBack” service free of charge to their fans.
ADI arrived on site on the Tuesday morning and began the job of manoeuvring the giant 100m² iCONIC 100 screen onto the pitch which had been protected by Eve Trackway to stop it marking the hallowed turf. The screen was raised and fully tested as were the PA system to ensure everything ran smoothly on the big night.
The next morning, queues already began forming with thousands of fans eagerly awaiting the gates opening – some had even begun their camping trip at 10pm on Tuesday! Gates were due to open at 6pm, but huge crowds outside led to an early opening at 4pm, and over 32,000 fans poured through the Ibrox gates to take their places in the Main, Copland and Broomloan Stands and experience together the club’s greatest European night since 1972. Prior to the match, they were treated to a special 1 hour “Road to Manchester” programme – featuring highlights from Rangers’ UEFA campaign and special player messages – before the screen went live to Manchester for live coverage of the match courtesy of a feed from STV.
...as the stands rapidly fill with 32,000 fans Ibrox
was electric as the match kicked off with a real home-match atmosphere
and a wall of noise from the 32,000 supporters cheering on every kick.
However, Rangers’ dream was not to be, and the strain of a punishing
schedule in the lead up to the final took its toll, the Scottish giants
eventually finishing on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline.
Following the match ADI began to derig the iCONIC 100 – a process that takes less than 30 minutes meaning that they were able to be offsite later that night and be on their way down to Haydock for the following day’s racing.
Customer Comment
Stuart Cain, Head of Commercial Affairs at Glasgow Rangers, said: “ADI
certainly helped us to create a fantastic atmosphere at Ibrox for this
most momentous of occasions and the iCONIC 100 ensured that absolutely
everyone got a great view of the action.
"It was important to Rangers that as many of our fans as possible could share the evening and what better way to do so than at Ibrox on the world’s largest mobile LED screen! Throughout the process ADI could not have been more helpful, particularly given the short notice on which it was organised.”
