Nova International use ADI screens for Bupa Great Manchester Run
Friday, June 6, 2008 at 2:32PM ADI provided LED screens and outside broadcast services for last weekend’s Bupa Great Manchester Run for the 5th year running.
The iCONIC 15 on the home straight ADI were contracted by Nova International to provide two screens for Britain’s premier 10K race, which has been taking place in the major North West city since 2003. Nova International operate a portfolio of some of the biggest running events in the world including The Bupa Great North Run (see www.greatrun.org).
2008’s Bupa Great Manchester Run was the biggest yet, with a record 31,000 runners of all abilities taking part. They were cheered on their way by tens of thousands of spectators who lined the streets of Manchester and were kept informed of all the latest action through ADI’s two screens.
ADI had arrived on-site early on the Sunday morning, to site both of the iCONIC mobile LED screens and prepare the outside broadcast truck and camera positions. With cameras to be situated at the start line and finish line, long runs of cable needed to be laid. ADI provided two of their more compact screens, which are more suited to the urban environment in which the event takes place.
The iCONIC 10 keeps spectators and runners informed at Manchester Central
The iCONIC 10 was positioned in front of Manchester Central (formerly GMEX) – an area where crowds were encouraged to congregate and featuring stands from event sponsors such as Nike – whilst the iCONIC 15 was setup by another spectator hotspot near the finish line by the canal on Deansgate.
With everything setup, the screens began running content at 8am. Throughout the day they ran a mixture of live footage from ADI’s cameras mixed with The BBC’s live coverage. The screens were also used to promote event sponsors as well as carrying straplines at the bottom of the screens giving important safety and procedural information.
With all four classes of race underway by 11.15, it was to be an early finish for ADI with the screens powered down at around 1.45pm and the outside broadcast unit derigged and screens lowered within the hour, enabling ADI to head back up the M61 towards Preston by 2.45pm
Customer Comment
Charlie Mussett, Event Director for the Bupa Great Manchester Run, said: “This was the fifth year running we’ve contracted ADI for The Bupa Great Manchester Run and we received the high level of service we’ve come to expect from them.
This year we used some of ADI’s smaller mobile screens, which were great for the city environment as they allowed us more options with where we located them and could be sited quickly and easily.
We look forward to working with ADI again later in the year at The Bupa Great North Run.”
