ADI Help Bring Polo to The Masses at Polo In The Park
Monday, June 15, 2009 at 11:17AM A brace of ADI iCONIC mobile LED screens spent a long weekend at Hurlingham Park in London for Polo In The Park on the 5th – 7th June.
The iCONIC 100 ensured everyone got a great view of the action
The inaugural event of The World Polo Series, Polo In The Park is the first in a series of polo tournaments taking place in major global cities, aiming to bring a new audience to the game.
The series features a number of rule changes and enhancements to improve the game as a spectator sport and for the first time polo will gain a global television audience, with the tournament due to be shown on ITV later this month as well as across the world.
...and the iCONIC12 made sure no-one in the hospitality area missed out
ADI’s giant iCONIC 100 screen formed part of this spectator-friendly ethos and it ensured that everyone got a great view of the action in each match, on the world’s largest mobile LED screen. ADI took a live feed of the coverage, which was suitably high-tech, featuring head cams, bird’s eye shots and live statistics, backup up by lively commentary to help keep the crowd up to speed with the action.
As well as the largest screen on their fleet, ADI also provided one of their smallest, with an iCONIC 12 positioned in the hospitality area, ensuring no-one missed a minute of the matches.
Having hosted polo for the 1908 Olympic Games – and even though the governing body of polo is called The Hurlingham Polo Association – it had been 70 years since the hallowed turf of Hurlingham had reverberated to the thunder of hooves on turf and mallet on ball. So it was a welcome return to the spiritual home for the sport described as “like playing golf in an earthquake” by Hollywood star and keen polo player Sylvester Stallone.
Some of the world’s leading polo players competed to a sell-out crowd on the Friday and Saturday, with the new rules going down well amongst traditional polo fans and new fans alike. Following two days of intense competition, Sunday saw Hurlingham open its doors to the local community with a free public event, allowing families to have an enjoyable day out and get a close up view of the thrilling world of polo.
The crowds take to the field for the traditional divet stomping
ADI Business Development Manager Nick Parker commented, “It was a pleasure to be involved in such a landmark event. The organisers had done a terrific job in making the event enjoyable for everyone, whether they had a knowledge of polo or not, and it certainly helped to bring this exciting sport to a new audience.”
Chairman of World Polo Daniel Fox Davies commented: “The event was a resounding success, with universally positive feedback. ADI’s iCONIC 100 looked superb and was integral to our aims of demystifying the sport for everyone by ensuring everyone had a great view of the action at all times, whilst the smaller screen helped us to achieve the same in the hospitality area.”
