And the Award for Best Dressed Screen Technician Goes to...
Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 5:32PM You won’t see many better dressed screen technicians this year than ADI’s man in the Royal Ascot Royal Enclosure!
Pretty fly for a screen guy...
Probably the most exclusive area in any global sporting event, The Royal Enclosure has a strict dress code, which even screen technicians have to comply with!
One of the two iCONIC 15s at the Parade Ring as HRH The Queen arrives
The screen was one of fourteen that ADI provided as exclusive LED screen supplier to Ascot Racecourse. The jewel in the crown of the world of racing, Royal Ascot is one of the most prestigious events on the sporting calendar. The annual festival week sees over 300,000 racegoers enjoy the splendour and colour of five days of the finest racing, fashion and glamour, and of course boasts the attendance of HRH Queen Elizabeth II each day.
Another iCONIC 15 at the Silver Ring
This was the second year of ADI’s contract which has seen them hugely improve both the number and quality of screens to the famous week of racing. In previous years, Ascot’s LED screens had come from a range of different providers; ADI’s solution has brought uniformity across the screens, as well as a consistent 16:9 widescreen ratio to meet modern broadcast standards.
Whilst larger iCONIC 60s and iCONIC 100s entertain the crowds along the course in front of the Grandstand
Each of the screens came from ADI’s range of iCONIC mobile LED screens ranging in size from 12m² to 100m². Five larger iCONIC 60s and iCONIC 100s were used along the home straight, facing the grandstands, whilst smaller iCONIC 12s, 15s and 25s were used throughout other areas of the course, such as the Silver Ring Enclosure, the Parade Ring and the Silver Ring.
Centre of much of the week’s action, The Parade Ring was also home to two of ADI’s innovative iCONIC 15s, with their double-sided design giving four further screens. These proved to be extremely effective throughout the week, allowing everyone inside the Parade Ring and in the many social and bar areas surrounding to get an uninterrupted view of every race and event.
With an ADI screen in view virtually everywhere onsite, they formed an important communication tool for Ascot via “Ascot TV”, which was produced onsite and ran throughout each day. With races not beginning each day until after the 2pm Royal Procession, the show helped to keep everyone up to date with live interviews and news and much focus on the fashion aspect of the event, before showing each race and winner’s presentation live.
ADI CEO Geraint Williams commented, “It is both a pleasure and honour to complete this most prestigious of Ascot’s meets, which is undoubtedly one of the world’s hallmark sporting occasions. Our contract with Ascot has seen us virtually double the total screen area onsite, and it is a mark of the sheer scale of our operations that we are able to fulfil this contract exclusively using our own stock of screens – a service that literally no-one else could offer.
"This brings with it many benefits for Ascot, with standardised and new product (every screen is under two years old, and many under 6 months), guaranteed levels of service and 16:9 screens across the course. We look forward to fulfilling the next stage of this year’s contract next month.”
“We were delighted with the screens for Royal Ascot, both in terms of their quality and the service provided by ADI. They helped us to communicate effectively with our guests and certainly enhanced the raceday experience for everyone.
In particular, the iCONIC 15s around the Parade Ring were a success and proved great focal points for one of the busiest areas on the site, whilst the larger screens ensured that everyone facing the course had a great view of every race.”
